About Us
A 30-YEAR HERITAGE OF TOUGHNESS
Redback Horizontal Grinders are new to North America, but they have a decades-long reputation as brilliantly tough, amazingly efficient machines, hardened by experience in one of the harshest environments on Earth: Australia.
Australia is home to tropical rainforests, arid deserts, dense forests, mountain ranges, and wetlands – and the Redback grinder has tamed them all.
OUR ‘ROCKY’ BEGINNINGS
Redback’s parent company, Van Gelder Pty. Ltd, was founded in 1914 as a manufacturer of hammer mills for hard rock and mineral processing. David Stubbs, a brilliant engineer, assumed the reins of the company in 1987 and applied the company’s heavy-duty ideology and knowledge to create a green waste grinder in 1991.
PROVEN TOUGH
Redback horizontal grinders are built tougher because they have to be.
Australian hardwoods are some of the hardest woods in the world, and Redback grinders are engineered to tame even the strongest materials. Our grinders are incredibly powerful yet efficient, but what really sets us apart is our machine’s resilience; contamination that would stop other grinders dead is just a distraction for Redback.
BUILT FOR AMERICA
In partnership with Redback, the Doppstadt® Group, with its 60+ years of experience manufacturing industrial grinders and shredders, has brought Redback Horizontal Grinders to the U.S. to meet the growing demand for durable, efficient, and operator-friendly recycling equipment.
Redback grinders offer the best of three continents:
- Australian survival, by taming the hardest woods and conditions on Earth.
- German engineering, to provide power, efficiency, and remarkable throughput.
- American independence, because its simple design lets you maintain and repair in the field.
Redback grinders are built for America. Tough, hardworking, and seriously productive.
OUR NAME
The Redback spider, also known as the ‘Australian black widow,’ is a venomous predator native to Australia. It’s small but powerful and is known for taking down prey much larger than itself. Its preferred environment is among wood chips and piles, so with its natural connection to wood, the Redback name was chosen. It is fierce, adaptable, should never be underestimated, and thrives in a wide range of climates – just like our horizontal grinders.
